How the British ethnocentric view of the First Australians caused conflict between the two cultures.

The way the first British colonizers viewed the Australian Aboriginals culture was extremely ethnocentric. The British did not accept the way the Australian Aboriginals acted because it was so different to their own customs. The British did horrible things to the Australian Aboriginals because of their differences. When the British first meet the Australian Aboriginals they got along well but as the British colony in Australia grew, the Australian Aboriginals and the British became more hostile to each other. The British started looking for more land to grow better crops and the Australian Aboriginals retaliated. The British thought that the Australian Aboriginals were savage and barbarous, because the Australian Aboriginals did not like the way the British advance their land grab on their scared lands. The British however thought it was perfectly fine and necessary to succeed in any way possible to advance their own way of life. All of this happened because the British were ethnocentric if they alternatively thought more about what life was like for the Australian Aboriginals then all of the fighting and conflict might not have happened. The British did not care what life was like for the Australian Aboriginals as long as it was fine for them. Since the British were so ethnocentric it caused lots of fights with the Australian Aboriginals. One of the reasons they fought was because they did not share each others views on life. Land to the Australian Aboriginals was scared and could not be owned. It was a part of their Dreamtime, their sacred beliefs. The British views were that land was to be conquered, cultivated and owned. That by landing at and discovering this new land that they had every right to declare it their own. Ethnocentric beliefs allowed the British to feel justified in their actions and superior to the Australian Aboriginals.

ACT 2/ SCENE 2/ LINES 8-56/Page 88-92

In this scene Calpurnia is trying to convince Caesar to stay at home and not go to the senate, because she had a dream of Caesar being murdered. In Calpurnia’s dream she saw Caesar’s statue with 100 stabs and while the blood was pouring the Romans would wash their hands in the blood with joy. This scene is foreshadowing of the assassination which is about to happen; Calpurnia is in vision what will happen at the senate.

This scene was chosen to show Caesar’s private and public sides. Also to show the love and respect Calpurnia has on her husband and it is a battle between faiths vs. freewill. Caesar’s private side was shown when he pates Calpurnia’s head and says that he will stay home for her but actually he is also staying with his own fear. Caesar’s shows he is brave by saying that he is more dangerous than danger itself and also says that if he stays home he would be a be a beast without a heart. Calpurnia’s love and respect is shown when she kneels and begs to him telling Caesar not to go to the senate.

Quote : (only the lines that’s going to be said)

“CALPURNIA
What mean you, Caesar? think you to walk forth?
You shall not stir out of your house to-day.

CAESAR
Caesar shall forth: the things that threaten'd me
Ne'er look'd but on my back; when they shall see
The face of Caesar, they are vanished.

CALPURNIA
Caesar, I never stood on ceremonies,
Yet now they fright me. There is one within,
Besides the things that we have heard and seen,
Recounts most horrid sights seen by the watch.
A lioness hath whelped in the streets;
And graves have yawn'd, and yielded up their dead;
Fierce fiery warriors fought upon the clouds,
In ranks and squadrons and right form of war,
Which drizzled blood upon the Capitol;
The noise of battle hurtled in the air,
Horses did neigh, and dying men did groan,
And ghosts did shriek and squeal about the streets.
O Caesar! these things are beyond all use,
And I do fear them.

CAESAR
What can be avoided
Whose end is purposed by the mighty gods?
Yet Caesar shall go forth; for these predictions
Are to the world in general as to Caesar.

CALPURNIA
When beggars die, there are no comets seen;
The heavens themselves blaze forth the death of princes.

CAESAR
Cowards die many times before their deaths;
The valiant never taste of death but once.
Of all the wonders that I yet have heard.
It seems to me most strange that men should fear;
Seeing that death, a necessary end,
Will come when it will come.

CAESAR
The gods do this in shame of cowardice:
Caesar should be a beast without a heart,
If he should stay at home to-day for fear.
No, Caesar shall not: danger knows full well
That Caesar is more dangerous than he:
We are two lions litter'd in one day,
And I the elder and more terrible:
And Caesar shall go forth.

CALPURNIA
Alas, my lord,
Your wisdom is consumed in confidence.
Do not go forth to-day: call it my fear
That keeps you in the house, and not your own.
We'll send Mark Antony to the senate-house:
And he shall say you are not well to-day:
Let me, upon my knee, prevail in this.

CAESAR
Mark Antony shall say I am not well,
And, for thy humour, I will stay at home.”

Learning profile

In humanities we found out about our learning profiles I am a logic learner which means that I have to process information more thoroughly than other people. I am an EE learning profile which means that I have to have as much information as possible to complete a task. To concentrate better I need to have no distractions whatsoever.

Some strategies that would help me in my learning during class would be to sit closer to the front so I could hear better. That would help me understand what we are supposed to be focusing on. Another would be to sit next to people who don't distract me so I can focus more on my work and less on them.

I would like my teachers to know that although I may not show it all the time, I work hard to get all of my work done on time. If I do not hand something in on time I get upset so I try to finish it ASAP, so my teachers aren't let down. Sometimes I wish I had more time to work on things. Being upset with myself makes me do silly mistakes. I also put loads of effort into all of my work which is why some things are not finished when they are supposed to be. This is because I am still trying to improve them for their final grade. This all means sometimes I make things worse for myself.

How does art mirror society?

One of the word's most famous artist and sculptors is Michelangelo di Buonarroti because of his works of art in the Sistine Chapel. Modern day tourists flock to the Chapel to experience the life like work of this Renaissance artist. The ceiling of the Chapel depicts biblical stories from the book of Genesis. The Creation of Adam is the 4th panel in the ceiling's work of art it was commissioned by Pope Julius II. The piece itself shows God breathing life into Adam and was the last of the works to be completed on the ceiling in 1511.
The life like body of Adam shows movement and realism never before depicted in paintings. It shows the human form more clearly explained than would be explained to medical university students of the time. It is fluid in its form and reaches out and touches the viewer with life, like God breathing breath onto the painting itself. The artist of the Renaissance were famous for their depictions the human form and anatomy. Focusing on small details like the shape of our forehead and pelvis. The study of Michelangelo pushed beyond the classical sculptures of past works. He was an artist, philosopher, architect and poet. Who wanted to understand the human form in every detail and show this in his works. The Creation of David is a fresco piece painted on damp plaster using a variety of brush strokes and vibrant colors. It was often re touched due to the damp plaster and sponging effects on the vibrancy of the work. Michelangelo built his own scaffolding and painted the work creating a 3 dimensional image of God and Adam joining in the giving of life. Michelangelo influenced future artists by creating his idealistic form of the human body and their complex posses. The developments and understanding of mathematics in the Renaissance helped artist to view human nudes in new complex ways. And with advancement in learning came the theory that artists who pushed ideas in their works of art with individualism were now considered great and respected. This social view now would set the way for many future artists to push boundaries and for tourists viewing the Sistine Chapel to look at Michaelangelo works with whatever opinions and beliefs they wanted.

Driving Forces of the Renaissance

Without exploration, science would not have evolved because they would not have found materials/ideas from other civilizations.
